BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT boss James Webster is hoping for a repeat performance from his side in tomorrow’s home match against Great Wakering Rovers.

The R’s were in ruthless form in Tuesday’s Ryman League north division success at home to Witham Town, winning 4-0.

But while delighted to triumph by such a margin, Webster was just as delighted with the clean sheet - something that eluded them during a busy January.

“I was really pleased about that,” said the Regent boss, whose side are sixth in the table and three points adrift of the play-offs, behind fifth-placed Cray Wanderers.

“It’s something we’ve been after for weeks and important to stop conceding silly goals, giving teams two-goal head starts.

“The back four didn’t give away too many chances.

“We worked harder and made it difficult for them to create anything.

“That plan worked well - unlike in recent weeks when we’ve made life so difficult for ourselves - and I was always confident after keeping it goal-less at half-time that we’d grow into the game and be able to win it in the second.”

Phil Kelly, Russell Malton, Jake Clowsley and Jake Turner scored the Regent goals against Witham.

And Webster was particularly praiseworthy of former FC Clacton man Clowsley.

“Jake had an excellent game and I was really pleased for him,” he said.

“We played him in the number ten role and he got on the ball a lot more and was more positive.

“I think it was probably his best game for us.

“He’s a nice lad and he works hard. He’s very committed to his football.

“All of our front players got on the ball and were positive and there was plenty of end product, which we lacked on Saturday.

“We were superb, moved the ball around really well and created chances.”

Witham will be hoping to bounce back when they travel to Thurrock.

Elsewhere, Essex Senior Cup semi-finalists HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS have a tricky home match against Harlow Town.

Jody Brown’s side have won their last two league games, against high-flying Cray and Wroxham.

And the Swifts boss believes his side are capable of making it three in a row.

“Harlow have got some of the best attacking players in the division, but if we can stop their attacking line we can go and create chances at the other end,” he said.

MALDON & TIPTREE are away to Aveley.
