STANWAY ROVERS striker Jamie Shaw believes his side can enjoy another FA Vase adventure.

The club got to within one win of the quarter-finals last season before eventually bowing out at Cornish side St Austell.

Having been given a bye until the second round this year, Rovers are now preparing for tomorrow’s home tie against Mildenhall Town.

And striker Shaw is hopeful they can embark on another memorable Vase run.

“This is a special competition for everyone, especially after the amazing run the team had last season,” said the 26-year-old.

“It would be great to do even better this year.

“The spirit is unbelievable and we’re on a really strong run of results.

“I don’t think any team would fancy coming here at the moment.

“It’s a huge game for us – we’ll prepare properly and I have every confidence the result will be a positive one for us.”

Shaw has stepped up to Thurlow Nunn League level this season after joining from Essex and Suffolk Border League champions West Bergholt.

He says it has been a tough but enjoyable transition.

“Players are much fitter and stronger than what I was up against in the Border League,” he said.

“The games are much quicker and there are no easy games.

“Whether you’re playing Thetford or Godmanchester, you have to be switched on and work hard at all times.

“You can’t go through the motions and expect the outcome to be in your favour.

“It’s been a learning curve for me and there have been some highs and lows, but I think that comes with every level of football.

“On the whole, I’ve absolutely loved it, listening and learning from some respectable, experienced characters.

“I’m lucky enough to be playing with a great bunch of lads, under a very good management team, and I’ve made some real good friends along the way.”

FC CLACTON and BRANTHAM ATHLETIC have no game tomorrow, while Thurlow Nunn League division one leaders WIVENHOE TOWN will be hoping to protect their unbeaten record when they travel to March Town United.

HALSTEAD TOWN are away to AFC Sudbury Reserves while BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES go to Team Bury.
