George Elokobi rescued a point for Colchester United this afternoon after they came from behind to draw 2-2 with Scunthorpe United at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Elokobi, making his first start since returning to the club in the summer, headed in with nine minutes remaining to equalise for Colchester, who had trailed for much of the game.

Colchester fell behind in the seventh minute when Kevin van Veen's 25-yard free-kick flew past the U's wall and into the bottom corner.

And things got even worse for the home side ten minutes later when Paddy Madden raced onto Scott Laird’s fine pass and slotted low inside the near post.

Madden’s first-time volley sailed just wide before Colchester got back into ten minutes before the break through George Moncur, who slotted in from ten yards after Gavin Massey had latched onto Tom Eastman’s long pass and appeared to be brought down by Charlie Goode in the area.

Scunthorpe keeper Joe Anyon scrambled away Joe Edwards’ far-post effort, just before the break, as Colchester went in trailing.

But the U's started the second half well, with Massey unlucky with a long-range effort just after half-time.

They eventually equalised with nine minutes remaining through Elokobi’s downward header from Callum Harriott’s corner which flew past Anyon.

Both sides went for a winner after that but Colchester had to be content with a draw, as their wait for a first win of the season was extended to six matches.
