Colchester Swimming Club member Laura Stephens finished tied for third place to claim bronze for Great Britain in a dramatic women's 100 metres butterfly final at the European Games.

The talented 16-year-old from Wix clocked 1:00.54 in the final, exactly the same time as Greece's Ilektra Varvara Lebl.

The race was won by Russia's Polina Egorova and Great Britain's Amelia Clynes claimed the silver.

Stephens, who now swims for Plymouth College produced a wonderful performance to ensure that there was a tie for the bronze medal.

She had qualified for the final after clocking a time of 1:00.77, in her semi-final.

Stephens will be aiming for another medal tomorrow when she competes in the women's 50m butterfly, on the final day of the event.
