Having competed in the British Motorcycle Racing Club Sidecar Championship for many years Braintree sidecar driver Kevin Cable has decided to step up to compete in the British Formula One Sidecar Championship this year.

Run alongside the British Superbike Championship, it is widely regarded as the best domestic championship in the world.

Cable has recruited a highly-experienced passenger in the form of Cheshire’s Andrew Taylor and the duo competed at the latest round at Snetterton in Norfolk.

Qualifying saw them take a strong 12th place on the grid for the following day’s 12-lap race. Several of the top-ranked teams fall by the wayside with mechanical issues and a crash, but Cable and Taylor got into a good rhythm and finished 11th.

With no machine issues for Sunday’s televised race, the pair were fighting all the way to the chequered flag and eventually finished 13th.

The pair were pleased with their performance, but realise they have plenty of work to do to move up the standings from their current 21st position in the overall standings. The next round is in two weeks at Knockhill in Scotland.
