Despite yet another impressive win in the top flight of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship, Witham Cricket Club’s players are keeping their feet on the floor.

A 27-run victory against previously unbeaten Wivenhoe, was Witham’s fifth win of the season and means, that after just six games, they have already matched what they achieved last year.

It has left Witham fourth in the division one table, however, captain Jake Wakelin is playing down any talk of pushing for the title and insists his players are just enjoying each game as it comes.

“Wivenhoe were unbeaten so we were over the moon with that result against them,” he said.

“It was a great all-round team performance.

“Wivenhoe are a good side and they’ve been in this division for a long time.

“They are one of the sides who are contending for the title, so a win against them is great for us.

“I’m not saying we’re going to win the league, though.

“We’re just enjoying it.

“We have five wins from six games now this year and we had five from 20 last year, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to the title.

“There are hard games coming up, but what we do know is that teams will be wary of us now.”
