Witham Town manager Garry Kimble is hoping that he’ll be able to keep his team together this summer, but he fears that some more experienced members of his squad may depart.

There has already been one change at the Village Glass Stadium since the season ended with a 2-0 defeat at Enfield Town on Saturday as assistant manager Brad King has left the club.

It has been a difficult season in the Ryman League premier division that ended with Witham being relegated and King said the campaign had taken its toll.

He said: “Towards the end of the season, I was thinking it over and I said to Garry that I felt it was time to step away. It has been quite draining – probably the most draining season of my time in management as so much work has had to go in on and off the park.

“But I’m leaving with happy memories and I’m so proud of what we have achieved in my three years at the club.

“They asked us to just keep them in the Ryman North, but we almost made the play-offs in the first year and got promoted in the second, so what we achieved with the resources we have had has been incredible.

“I’m really proud of my contribution. The effort and desrire of the boys has been great this year as well and it’s been a great experience.

“There are a lot of good people at Witham, it’s a great club and it has a huge potential.”

Witham must now move on without King, but Kimble is expecting a cut in his playing budget and he feels that he may struggle to hold on to some members of his squad.

“To be honest, I’m glad the season is over and we now have to regroup again,” said Kimble. “It will be hard as I know my budget will be cut for next year and that will make it a tall order to get promoted.

“I doubt I’ll be able to keep hold of some of the players. I’ll hold on to some of them, but I think some of the experienced ones may move on."
