Alan Massey may have picked up the fans’ vote as Braintree Town’s top player this season, but the Iron centre-half has paid tribute to the work of his team-mates.
Braintree finished 14th in the division following Saturday’s final-day 4-2 win against Altrincham and Massey has been an intregral part of that, making 47 appearances and scoring two goals, at the heart of the back line as the team kept 16 clean sheets.
The former Wealdstone defender was named as Supporters’ Player-of-the-Year following Saturday’s game, but was quick to acknowledge his team-mates’ contributions. He said: “It’s great for me and a nice achievement after a long season.
“The fans’ award is up there with the best ones.
“As a player, the Players’ Player award is one where you are voted for by your peers, but the Supporters’ award is always a nice one to get when you’re at a club.
“We’ve been strong defensively this year, but that runs through the side.
“We work hard throughout so you can’t just aim that at me. It’s a team effort in defending as well as attacking and it’s been a great effort by the boys.”
