It proved to be another great day for the Blue Hornets Felsted Hockey Club with both their under-12 boys and under-ten girls being crowned county champions.

Both teams will now join the Hornets’ under-ten boys and under-12 girls in representing Essex at the regional finals next month.

The under-ten girls started well against Chelmsford with a 4-0 victory and they continued witha 7-0 win against Crostyx, before a 4-0 win against the Blue Hornet B team.

The final play-offs proved to be more challenging, though, and after going two goals behind to Old Loughtonians, the girls managed to pull level and draw the game.

The final game was against Chelmsford and with a win needed to remain as champions, the Blue Hornets dominated a 1-0 victory to take the county title.

The under-12 boys also sailed through their qualifying group with three convincing wins and 13 excellent goals scored by five different players.

The opening game of the second phase saw the boys finish Colchester off 5-0, before an 8-0 win against Old Loughts B to set up a game against Old Loughts A that would decide who would be crowned Essex champions.

The game finished 2-0 to the Hornets, who will now represent Essex at the East of England finals in April.
