Braintree Town striker Charlie Strutton is set to have an operation on his ankle that will end his season but will strengthen him for next year’s Conference Premier campaign.

The 26-year-old forward has struggled to find full fitness this year after joining Braintree last summer from AFC Wimbledon and has made just 12 appearances for the Iron.

He has failed to shake off the effects of a broken leg and ankle displacement that he suffered while on loan at Aldershot Town from the Dons last season and Braintree boss Alan Devonshire said Strutton now needs an operation to fully sort the problem.

The striker has been on loan in recent weeks at Conference South side Maidenhead United, but will now not return to the Iron before the end of the season because of the operation.

And Devonshire is confident that it is a procedure that will allow his player to come back stronger and fitter in time for their pre-season campaign.
