Out of favour winger Sanchez Watt has to raise his game in order to force his way back into Colchester United’s first-team squad.

That’s the view of boss Tony Humes, who says the former Arsenal youngster is currently not doing enough to play a part in the club’s vital run-in.

Watt, who has made 55 appearances for Colchester since joining them on a permanent basis in June 2013, has not featured in any of the club’s last ten matches in League One.

The 24-year-old has recently been training with the U’s under-21 side and Humes says the forward, who is out of contract at the end of the season, must up his game if he is to get back into the squad.

Humes said: “Sanchez needs to do more for himself.

“As much as anything, he has to force his way into the team.

“He has to perform, he has to work hard in training and he has to put himself in the position that he makes us look at him for the first team but at the moment he’s not doing that.

“Sanchez is a good kid.

“He’s in a position where he’s out of contract at the end of the season and he has to do more to get himself playing.

“He’s a professional footballer.

“He’s a good lad so there are absolutely no issues with Sanchez but he just needs to do more.”
