Braintree's Aleasha Kiddle has ended the first day of the FIBT Bobsleigh World Championships sitting 12th.

The 22-year-old former Braintree and District Athletic Club star is racing for Great Britain as brakewoman behind driver Mica McNeill at the championships in Winterberg in Germany.

They are targeting a top-ten finish and placed themselves in a good position at the end of the opening day with day two of the competition to come on Saturday.

The British duo's first run put them in 13th spot, 0.93 seconds off the pace set by leaders Elana Myers Taylor and Cherrelle Garrett of the USA and 0.12 seconds off tenth position.

However, they closed that gap up in the second of the opening day's runs as McNeill and Kiddle found good speed towards the end of the Winterberg track.

It placed them 12th at the halfway stage and 1.82 seconds off the pace set by the American duo.

Kiddle and McNeill headed to the senior World Championships after finishing sixth at the junior worlds two weeks ago.
