Colchester are closing in on a youth loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kenny McEvoy until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old, who spent two months on loan at the U’s League One rivals Peterborough United earlier in the season, has been training with Tony Humes’ squad this week.

McEvoy, who first joined Spurs Academy in 2011, watched Colchester’s 2-0 win over Leyton Orient, last weekend.

And the U’s are hoping that they might clinch his signing in time for their trip to play Bradford City, this weekend.

U’s boss Humes said: “Kenny is a young forward from Tottenham looking to get league experience.

“We’ll see when the best time is to put him in.

“He’s another young player but he’s an exciting young prospect.

“We want to have a look at him and see if he can force his way into our squad.

“I’m not saying that he’ll go straight in and play but there’s an opportunity for him to get experience with us.

“He’ll give us something different.”

McEvoy, who is a Republic of Ireland international, scored once in eight appearances for Peterborough.

He netted the opener in Posh’s 3-2 win over MK Dons, last August before being recalled from his season-long loan from Peterborough in November.
