STANWAY ROVERS are riding on the crest of a wave - but joint-assistant boss Alex Drennan says his players need no reminding of the size of the task facing them in tonight’s League Cup quarter-final against Godmanchester Rovers.

Rovers are on a fantastic nine-game unbeaten run in the Thurlow Nunn League, fuelling their ambitions of promotion to the Ryman League.

However, the last side to beat them were tonight’s opponents, when the Cambridgeshire side won 1-0 at The Hawthorns on October 11.

Drennan says that will give his side added motivation and serves as a reminder of how tough the tie will be.

“We’re looking forward to it and expecting another really difficult game,” he said.

“Godmanchester are a physical side and we know we’ll have to be at our best.

“Ideally, we would have liked to rest one or two, but I’m not sure that will be possible because we’ll need to put our strongest side out.

“Godmanchester are the last side to beat us and maybe that will spur the boys on.

“It’ll certainly remind them that they’ve got a big job on their hands and that they’ll need to be at their best.

“Although the league will always be our priority, we want to do well in all the competitions and we’ve got a decent record in this cup.”

Stanway head into tonight’s 8pm kick-off - rearranged after being postponed seven days ago - in high spirits after Saturday’s excellent 1-0 victory at Mildenhall.
