A LARGE field produced some impressive scoring at Playgolf Colchester’s Par/Bogey competition, despite the freezing conditions.

The solid scores were enhanced by the fine course, with the club successfully keeping all main greens in play so far this year.

Lee Kidger (nine) won division one, after carding a consistent round and recording a winning score of one down.

His card included eight pars and was enough to beat improving up-and-comer Matt Barnett (12), who carded a score of two down.

Barnett’s card highlights came with five pars.

Steve Turner (12) carded six pars to finish third with his card of six down, one better than fourth-placed Darren Kerr (ten).

Ivan Southernwood (19) won a packed division two, after carding a trio of pars as part of his winning score of all square.

A better back nine score helped Glen Saunders (19) finish second on countback ahead of Trevor Hollingsworth (16), after both carded scores of one down.

Countback was also needed to separate the top-three places in division three, after a trio of competitors carded scores of one up.

Richard Aves (25) won with a better back nine score, leaving Miguel Ruiz (24) in second and Scott Wyatt (23) in third place.

A large field of competitors turned out to compete in Playgolf Colchester’s seniors’ Texas Scramble.

The team of Derek Mannister, Robin Kilburn and Alan Burke won with a fantastic six under par score of gross 64.

Jeff Coles, Trevor Cocksedge and Will Elder were runners-up with a score of 65.7.

A shot further back in third place were Terry Skornia, Don Miller and Jim Greenfield, on 66.7.

Playgolf Colchester’s Ladies section held a 14-hole stableford competition in windy conditions, with a large field turning out to compete.

Ann Longman won division one with a solid score of 26 points, ahead of runner-up Rose Cole.

Linda Smith was third on countback from Pauline Coxon.

Lucy Sadler put a great score together to win division two with 25 points.

Pauline Jordan was second on 22 points, with Shirley Birkin securing third place with 18 points.
