Onley Arms maintained their position at the top of the Essex Invitational Petanque League after the leading pair met at Bocking.

Stisted side Onley travelled to Bocking 1 and opened with a 13-2 win in the triples as Trevor Blows, Dan Blows and Lorne Gibson were never troubled by Pam Adams, Trevor Turner and Malcolm Smith.

In the singles, the two Trevors played each other in a very close game, with Turner taking a 5-1 lead before Blows came back to lead 9-8.

After a couple of close ends it was 11-11 but it was Turner who pointed well to win the game 13-11.

The deciding pairs was close early on with David Adams and Smith leading Dan Blows and Gibson 5-3.

But with Blows in good shooting form, the Onley duo came back to win.

Their 2-1 win kept Onley Arms above Thorley, who beat Three Elms 2 3-0.
