The Cosgrove family enjoyed plenty of success at Playgolf Colchester’s annual Turkey Trot competition.

Junior member Joe Cosgrove (14) showed the rest of the field how it is done by winning with an impressive gross 80, in testing weather conditions.

And his older brother Ben Cosgrove (4) fired the lowest gross round, with eight pars and four birdies helping him record a gross 73 (nett 69).

Joe played some fantastic golf to win the competition, which was contested by a large field.

He recorded nine pars, securing a one shot-cut to his handicap next time out.

Joe’s four-under par round was just one better than that of in-form Rob Cornish (16), who carded a gross 83, nett 67.

Cornish’s round included eight pars and a birdie two on the par three 16th, earning him a shot handicap reduction to boot.

Simon Stevens (20) completed the top three with his nett 68 which included three pars on a course that boasted fantastic greens.

The ladies stableford also attracted a large field and was played out in testing playing conditions.

Ann Longman won division one on countback from Liz Schultz, after both players recorded 29 points.

Gina Macmillan was two points adrift in third place, with 27 points.

It was a very different story in division two.

Lucy Sadler was a runaway winner after scoring 34 points, finishing an amazing 11 points clear of runner-up Janet Blackmore.

Catherine Harrison was third, a further seven points adrift.

The 2014 Eclectic competition has now been completed, with Nicky Withycombe winning for the second successive year.

After half of the handicap allowance was applied, Withycombe’s final score of 64.5 beat Ann Longman (67.5) into second place.

Carol Farrance was half a shot behind in third.
