HEYBRIDGE Swifts have battled to a replay in the FA Trophy.

The Ryman One North side travelled to Lewes from the division above in the rescheduled second qualifying round tie on Wednesday night and secured a 1-1 draw.

Early pressure from Swifts at the Dripping Pan ground saw the ball crossed to Jon Glowacki who sliced his effort.

Neil Richmond then fired in a shot that the Lewes keeper Rikki Banks beat away.

On nine minutes Swifts’ Nikki Beale headed against the bar from a Reece Morgan corner.

But Lewes then went close six minutes later when Leroy Griffiths fired against the post.

And the home side continued to heap on the pressure forcing keeper Danny Sambridge into a backpedalling save from a Luke Blewden lob.

Blewden then went close again on 24 minutes when he fired just wide past a diving Sambridge.

And it was the home side that made the breakthrough in first-half injury-time.

A Tom Davis free-kick was spilt by Sambridge and Ollie Rowe was on hand to fire the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead at the break.

Swifts had an early chance in the second half when Frank Griffin’s 30-yard shot had to be tipped over by Banks.

But the visitors Beale was then called on to clear the ball off the line as Griffiths headed back across goal.

However, it was Swifts who pulled themselves back into the game on 65 minutes.

Daniel Lopes crossed the ball in and Billy Hunt pulled it back for Neil Richmond to fire into the top left corner.

Despite Lewes late pressure Swifts held on to earn replay.
