Tony Humes believes the character Colchester United have shown in recent games shows the growing belief that exists among his players.

The U’s came from behind to beat Chesterfield 2-1 on Tuesday night and have lost only one of their last six League One matches.

Colchester have taken seven points from a possible nine in their last three league games, having fallen behind in each of them.

And U’s boss Humes feels the way his players are responding to setbacks is a reflection of the strong team spirit evident within their squad.

He said: “It grows belief and that team bond and spirit, to go into games thinking we can get something out of it.

“It was another game where we’ve come from behind to take points.

“We keep going and I think that’s one of the benefits of having young players.

“They don’t show any fear and even if the performance isn’t as good as we wanted it, they still work their socks off.

“The more times we come back and get a result after going behind, the more they believe they can do it.”
