Witham Cricket Club captain Leroy Facey has urged his players to put a “nightmare” weekend behind them as they look to get their battle against Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship relegation back on track.

A day to quickly forget saw Witham score just 71 with the bat before Mildenhall easily reached their target for a nine-wicket victory at the Park.

Not taking any points at all from the encounter was a blow to Witham’s hopes to stay in division one this year as they now find themselves just seven points above second-from-bottom Haverhill and the drop zone.

Facey said: “From ball one we just didn’t turn up.

“It was very disappointing.

“Winning a good game the week before should have given us confidence but we went backwards and that just isn’t good enough. If I’m completely honest, the bowling attack was nothing incredible, it was just that our top five were very poor.

“It was a nightmare and everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong.

“That’s not what we want at this stage."

Witham are due to head to Mistley tomorrow.
