BRIAN Nicolas collected top honours in the fifth round of the seniors’ winter league at the Essex Golf and Country Club.

After a long lay-off due to the adverse weather conditions, 32 eager competitors dusted off their clubs to try and improve the eclectic scores.

The event took place in difficult conditions, with a cold breeze blowing across the fairway.

Nicolas emerged the winner with 37 stableford points followed by Norman Stechman and Jim Patey with 35.
