Skier Benjamin Turp weaved his way into the record books after smashing the under-tens British Slalom record.

The eight-year-old Gosfield Lake Water Ski Club member broke the record during an Age Category Slalom competition at Gosfield Lake, after scoring four buoys at 32 miles per hour.

His next big competition will now be National Championships in Lincolnshire, in August.

This is Benjamin’s first year of competing at national level.

Meanwhile, skiers were put to the test as competitors from all over the country took part in The British Water Ski Youth Trials at Gosfield Lake.

Thirty-five young skiers battled through the hail and rain.

The first round of slalom saw Gosfield-trained David Kinnane take gold and Calum Heath was third, in the under-14s.

In the under-tens section, Benjamin Turp got second place and Sam Kinnane got third.

Two rounds of jump saw Gosfield’s Billy Turp, 15, fly to a personal best (PB) of 32.6m to finish third in the under-17s.

Both David and Calum also scored PBs in the under-14 jump.

In the slalom final, home skier Sam Kinnane skiied his way to a well-deserved silver, in the under-tens overall.

His older brother David dominated the under-14s slalom with a PB of three buoys on the 13 metre line that nobody could beat.
