KANE Vincent-Young insists there is more to come from him this season despite his impressive start to the new campaign.

The Colchester United defender has played his part in his side’s fine showing in the opening weeks of the League Two programme, helping them climb to fourth spot heading into tomorrow’s game at Oldham Athletic.

Vincent-Young’s consistent form at left-back has contributed to the U’s excellent defensive record, which has seen them concede just five goals in their opening eight league games.

But despite his solid form, the former Spurs youngster says he still has more to offer.

Vincent-Young said: “I have certain expectations of myself – I’m not saying I’ve had a bad start, far from it but I do think there’s more to come.

“It’s been a good start – I’m still warming up form wise and finding my rhythm again.

“I’m getting there but I’m happy to be playing and trying to form different partnerships with people all over the pitch.

“Off the back of a good season last year, it’s important that you replicate that but you can’t take for granted that it’s going to happen.

“It’s important that I continue to work hard on the training ground and take that into match day.

“I want to contribute more going forward as I did last season and Jacko is already two goals ahead of me!

“The only thing that matters is that the team is performing well and we’re winning and I’m a part of that so you can’t complain and we’re in a good place.”

Vincent-Young is expected to be named in Colchester’s starting line-up again at Oldham tomorrow – but that was nearly not the case following a summer of contract uncertainty.

The 22-year-old put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with the U’s last month, bringing to an end weeks of speculation about his future at the JobServe Community Stadium.

“It was what it was and it’s been brushed under the carpet now,” added Vincent-Young.

“I’m delighted that everything is just normal and I’m really enjoying playing at the moment.

“Normal service has resumed with a great bunch of boys.

“We’re in a really good place as a group.

“We’ve had a good week’s training and we know the threats that Oldham pose so we’ll be going there looking to get a positive result.

“We’ve got a really strong squad, the spirit’s great and we feel we can get the three points, whether we’re at home or away.”
