COLCHESTER racing driver David Graves is celebrating after winning both races in the penultimate weekend of the national Toyo Tires Production BMW Championship.

The Graves Motorsport driver secured the double victory after qualifying in pole position, just 0.380 ahead of the second fastest driver Ross Stoner at Donington Park.

Graves said: “My car has handled better than it has all season, thanks to the hard work of my team.

"I’m really glad that I could turn all of their hard work into wins.

"I’m looking forward to the season finale at Rockingham but the championship is still very much a four-way battle between myself, Will Davison, Sam Strong and Nidal Al-Kahil.

"Now it’s time for me to focus and put all I have into taking home the trophy.”

After a great start in race one, Graves’ BMW E30 320i had the racing line in race one with a clear track in front down into Craner Curves.

Graves broke away from the rest of the pack after the Old Hairpin but a small mistake on the fourth lap meant he nearly lost the lead.

Thankfully, the number 33 driver recovered from his error to put distance between him and the cars behind, remaining out in front for the rest of the race.

Graves instantly took the lead in race two where he remained for the duration, to cross the line 3.935 seconds ahead of second-placed Will Davison.

The results give Graves an eight-point lead as he approaches the championship decider at Rockingham on September 30.

Despite the advantage, points are tight at the top of the leaderboard with Graves needing to finish in the top three cars in at least one of the two races to win.
