IPSWICH Town boss Paul Hurst admitted his side need to find their cutting edge fast after sliding to a 1-0 defeat at Rotherham United.

The Blues had more than enough chances in Saturday's Championship clash at the New York Stadium.

Instead, they were left licking their wounds after conceding a last-gasp winner and finishing empty-handed.

The Millers snatched victory in the 90th minute, thanks to Michael Smith's strike following Anthony Forde's free-kick.

Hurst admitted it a was a bitter pill to swallow and his side are still hunting their first victory of the season, after last week's 2-2 draw at home to Blackburn Rovers.

"It feels hard to take," said the Town boss, whose side head to Exeter City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night before hosting Aston Villa in the Championship on Saturday.

"In the dressing room, you're feeling disappointed not to have won the game and then to actually lose is hard to take.

"I'm disappointed with the result. The business is results.

"It's nice to get performances but you want to get results hand in hand.

"The reason we didn't win is because we didn't score a goal.

"We're still learning but that performance should have got three points.

"I think we had enough chances and we've got to make sure we've got a cutting edge to us."

Hurst was pleased with his new signings, particularly Jon Nolan.

The midfielder came in for his debut after joining this week from Shrewsbury.

“I wanted to bring Jon into the football club as soon as I joined," said the Town boss, who was up against his former side in Rotherham, having spent most of his playing career with the Millers.

"It took longer than I would have hoped but he’s got quality. I never doubt that.

“I was amazed that other clubs weren’t in for him.

"I don’t know what they’ve been watching and I question people’s scouting networks.

“He looked very at home."

In addition to Nolan, another former Shrew, Toto Nsiala, was handed his Blues debut.

Kayden Jackson was on the bench, having only completed his move from Accrington Stanley on Thursday.

He started at centre-half alongside skipper Luke Chambers, with Janoi Donacien and Jonas Knudsen the full-backs.

Cole Skuse and Trevoh Chalobah filled the deeper midfield roles, with Grant Ward, back from suspension, picked to play on the left ahead of former Colchester United man Freddie Sears.

Gwion Edwards was on the right, with Nolan in the centre and Ellis Harrison continuing as the lone striker.
