COGGESHALL Cricket Club captain George Blackwell insists that his team's targets haven't changed despite their high-flying form in Marshall Hatchick Two counties Championship division one.

A 93-run win at Wivenhoe last weekend took Coggeshall up to fourth in the table ahead of a home game against Witham on Saturday and things are looking rosy for the Harefield side.

However, it is Coggeshall's first season back in the top flight and, having seen his team lose their previous two games, Blackwell isn't counting any chickens about where they can end up this season.

He said: "Yes, it's great to be back in top four, but I have said all along that a top-half finish was the aim and that is still the same.

"We have lost a couple of matches we shouldn't have and that hasn't helped but we will just keep doing what we are doing and you never know.

"I think it's going to take some going to challenge the top three but you never know.

Blackwell said the win against Wivenhoe was an important one as it prevented a third consecutive defeat and he has been pleased to see contributions from throughout his team.

He added: "It was a very important win against Wivenhoe as the last thing we wanted was to go on a losing streak and we knew we had a tough run of fixtures.

"So to win was important for morale and the coming weeks matches.

"We all want to win; we don't give up our Saturdays just to make the numbers up and winning and enjoying it is what we want to do and that happened on Saturday.

"We have some young inexperienced players at this level but they are performing well and as a team we are enjoying our cricket.

"We play hard and have a beer together after the game and that is what it's all about."

Coggeshall beat Wivenhoe after half-centuries from Ed King, George Hanham and Charlie Green took them to 255 and three wickets apiece for Kane Addison and Josh Morton helped as the hosts were bowled out for 162.

"It was a very good result at Wivenhoe and one that was needed after a disappointing couple of weeks," said Blackwell.

"At Frinton we just weren't at the races and against Woolpit, we threw the game away after dictating most the match so that really was annoying. "Wivenhoe have always been a good side so we always have good matches and Saturday was another.

"We batted very well with Ed King, George Hanham and Charlie Green all putting the Wivenhoe attack under pressure and playing confident cricket.

"To post just over 250 was great and straight away that put pressure on them to score runs from the go and we knew if we bowled in the right areas wickets would come and that's exactly what happened."

Blackwell is now looking for a strong show on Saturday against Witham, who they lost to in the reverse fixture at the Park earlier in the season.

He said: "We have most available I think and, again, it's always a good game against Witham as they have some very good players.

"We lost at their place earlier in the season with a few of us away so hopefully both sides will have good availability and we can have a good match as we have in the past."
