BRAINTREE Cricket Club captain Dan Garner feels his team should have the confidence to keep targeting the top spot in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two title race.

Garner's side are on an impressive run of form at the moment, with their two-wicket victory at Copford last weekend extending their winning run to six games.

They are the second tier's form side and, with his team trailing leaders Haverhill by just seven points ahead of a home game against Mildenhall seconds, who sit one place below Braintree in fourth, Garner feels they can set their sights high.

He said: "I think the team will be looking at the game against Mildenhall as being another opportunity to win and if other results go in our favour, we can go top.

"There are plenty of games left to be concerned about being promoted, but we are currently in the best form compared to the teams around us so we should be confident that we can continue that and push for the top spot.

"Certainly over the last few weeks we are starting to see some partnerships being made in the middle order and that makes a big difference in the team.

"We can have the confidence that in a tight run chase we can get over the line and get the win, regardless of the situation.

"Considering how tight it is at the top of the table, taking another 20 point win was great last weekend.

"Sometimes it is easy to become complacent and settle for a win, but we have to make sure that we take as many points as possible during the second half of the season because one or two points could be the difference."

Garner said he expected to have a strong squad to choose from for Saturday's game as Dan Chalk, Robbie Spalding and Louis Cant were all set to return after being unavailable last weekend.
