Braintree Cricket Club captain Dan Garner felt it was the depth of his team's batting line-up that proved the difference as they extended their winning run to six games last weekend.

Braintree's batsmen kept cool heads in the sun to chase down hosts Copford's score of 157 to record a two-wicket success and keep themselves in the heart of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two promotion race.

Garner admitted that it wasn't a straightforward victory, but he was pleased to see his players get it over the line for another important victory.

He said: "In truth it was a weird match.

"The wicket and ground was in good condition and after losing the toss and being asked to field I was expecting a difficult afternoon.

"We did bowl well I thought, however, it was mainly batsmen getting themselves out rather than down to a poor pitch. "That was the story of the day to be honest.

"A lot of batsmen gave their wickets away without taking advantage of the conditions from both sides.

"It just came down to our depth of batting that we had compared to Copford.

"We were missing more people than expected and the players who come up from the seconds were excellent.

"James Murphy and Joel Ainsley we great in the field, always encouraging the team and throwing themselves around when needed.

"Geoff Eveling was also called up to add extra options with bat and ball.

"Unfortunately, he didn’t get a chance with the ball but showed us his determination and skill to get us over the line with the bat in a situation he handled perfectly."
