IN a change to his plans of 12 months ago, Braintree Town manager Brad Quinton admits that Iron fans may expect to see loan players used within his squad this season.

When he took charge of the Iron this time last year, Quinton said he was reluctant to use loanees for their Vanarama National League South campaign and he'd rather have his own players than rely on other club's.

However, wind the clock forward 12 months and the Iron boss has revealed that it may be a "totally different kettle of fish" when they head into the National League.

Having played at that level himself, Quinton knows the greater demands of operating in the top tier of non-league football and having full-time players attached to Football League clubs could be a benefit with his part-time squad.

The inclusion Colchester United midfielder Diaz Wright towards the back end of their successful promotion battle last year showed how loanees can have a positive impact and Quinton knows spells at Braintree can be good for both parties.

“It’s a totally different kettle of fish this year and we are looking at it (using loan players) this year," he said.

“Those guys have a different level of fitness as they are training every day (with their professional clubs) and I believe the level of football we’re playing now gives them a better experience than playing under-23s football.

“I think it’s a far better level to be playing at than what they will get at their clubs just playing in under-23s leagues.

“The chance for them to come out and get experience at clubs like ours is tremendous.

“We have to build on that and if we can at this moment in time within our budget then that’s something we have to look at."
