GRAHAM Hurrell celebrated his captaincy with a weekend of celebrations held in glorious sunshine at Gosfield Lake Golf Club.

Hurrell has completed only three months of his year but has already shown enthusiastic support for all sections of the club and has attended all of the club teams in County competitions.

The captain’s major club competition was held over two days and 140 competitors played for the Captain’s Trophy together with many special prizes given by Hurrell.

A drawn shotgun competition was held, with the best stableford score to decide the winners and on both days, the captain provided Pimms and gourmet burgers to ensure the day was a success.

The victor, with a magnificent score of 43 points, was Derek Boon.

Only one point behind, on 42, was Joby Humm, who took second on countback from third-placed Tony Mead, while fourth spot went to Dave Totman on 41 points.

The best ladies' score was achieved by Margaret Byford on 38 points.

There were a number of nearest the pin competitions but the highlight on the fifth hole was the Captain’s Challenge - a par three over water through a tunnel of trees played off the blue tee at 220 yards - when the winner was Mead.

Our nearest the pin prizes went on the second hole to Josh Newman, on the eighth to Richard Last, on the 15th to Kevin Stedman and on the 17th to Mick Harris.

The Captain worked hard to make the days enjoyable by all the members who took part and added a further amount of almost £400 for the Captain’s Charity the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.
