HALSTEAD Cricket Club captain Josh Wells is hoping his team can reproduce their form of last weekend when they head to the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship leaders tomorrow.

It will be a buoyant Halstead that head to division one front runners Worlington tomorrow after they demolished Witham by ten wickets at Star Stile last time out and they have placed themselves at the head of the pack chasing down the leaders.

Wells insists it's still too early in the season to be thinking about his team's title chances, but he knows another strong performance tomorrow could be a crucial part of their campaign.

He said: "For us, every game that we have played has felt like it is the game of the season and we aren't looking too far ahead, but it would be very nice to put a result on them.

"Worlington are a win ahead of everyone else so it would be nice to close that gap and have a chance of being right at the top as we head towards the halfway point in the season.

"It's still too early to be saying about the title, but we are happy with the position that we have got ourselves into and we just need to kick on now.

"What's good is that everyone at Halstead is enjoying their cricket and you are seeing that come out in the results we've been getting.

"We have some really good cricketers here and it's been good that we haven't had to make too many changes each week.

"It can be hard when you have to do that through people being unavailable, but we are feeling like a proper side."

Wells said he expected two changes to be made from the side that beat Witham last weekend, with Sam Chapman and Harry Pritchard likely to be unavailable.

That will mean a return for Charlie Douglas-Hughes, though, and Mark Johnson should step back into the first team from the seconds.

Whatever players turn out for them at Worlington, though, Halstead will be hoping for a similar performance to the one they saw against Witham.

It was an impressive display as, having restricted Witham to 207 for eight from their 50 overs, Halstead cruised home with Chris Huntington hitting an unbeaten 128 from 119 balls and Pritchard partnering him with a 70 as they reached their target without a wicket falling.

Wells said: "It was a great performance; it looks pretty comprehensive on paper and it did actually feel like that.

"It was a top performance from everyone and while it was Chris Huntington getting a big score that saw us home, it was a real team display.

"To be honest, I was a little bit surprised to beat Witham in that manner as they have a really good side, but we contained them with the bat as we didn't let them get away and then batted them out of the game.

"Witham are one of the top sides in the division and hopefully others will look at that result and see that they have a game ahead of them when they face us."
