A SMALL contingent of Halstead Road Runners completed the Chicken Run event on Sunday.

Organised by the Company of Runners, it started and finished at the Five Bells in Colne Engaine.

The five-mile scenic trail was apparently named after the chickens in a club member's garden, which runners went past en route.

The reward at the finish was sausage and bacon baps.

Rob Frost came first out of the 48 competitors, finishing in 37 minutes and 38 seconds.

Phil Jeffries and Caroliena Cameron, running together, were third and fourth respectively, with Cameron the first lady.

Treena Carder and Charlotte May, also keeping each other company, were 20th and 21st in 1h 5s.

Sarah Frost walked the course with her dad and baby Alice.

They finished in 2h 5s, meaning a Frost came both first and last on the day.

Simon Humphrey returned to the Southend Half-Marathon and managed to take seven minutes off last year’s time, finishing in 1h 36m.

Trevor Sibley did the Hatfield Forest 10k in 47m 56s.
