BRAINTREE Bowling Club are hoping Times readers may be able to help with some missing information as they compile a history of their club to celebrate an important anniversary next year.

Eddie Hawkins is writing a history of Braintree Bowling Club to mark its centenary in 2019 and has been delving into the county archives, British newspapers and any memorabilia that members have given him.

However, there are a few pieces of information from the earlier years that have proved troublesome and in particular, two photographs that he is hoping may jog the memories of readers of the Braintree and Witham Times.

One of the pictures is of the club's County Memorial Shield winning team from 1933.

It was their first major trophy as a club and while Hawkins has been able to put a name to one of the faces - Henry Tribble - the rest remain a mystery.

Hawkins said: "Although 1933 is quite some time ago, there may be families still living in the Braintree area who could recognise some of the players in the picture.

"Maybe a grandfather or great relation?"

There is also a more recent picture that Hawkins believes dates from the 1950s of members standing on the pavilion steps.

The names of Frank Nicholls, Arthur Jolliff, Len Dyson, Alf Wood and Percy Tribble are known but others remain elusive.

Hawkins added: "I can only name some of them in this one and, again, perhaps some of the paper's readers might be able to come up with their names.

"I would appreciate any help in my quest."

If anyone is able to assist Hawkins in identifying any of the bowlers in either of the pictures, they can contact him by email at c42gulled@aol.com
