BRAINTREE Golf Club followed up their opening victory in the Jubilee Cup with a well-earned 4½-4½ tie at the Rayleigh Club.

There were wins for Graeme Brown, Chris Breen and Bob Kieffer and in the four ball betterball games by David Hammond and Stewart Gason.

Jon Goodwin, Geoff Goodwin and Russell Hedges were beaten in the singles while Rob Brand and Kevin Gould lost their 4BBB game.

The vital half point was achieved by Andy Smith and Dave Davenport in their 4BBB, achieving a half on the final hole after being two-down with two to play.

Braintree next face cup holders Stoke by Nayland next month.

Meanwhile in club competitions, Matthew Dunmore was a runaway winner of the men’s Professional Cup.

Playing off a handicap of 16, he compiled 42 points to win by three from plus-one handicapper Callum Pipe.

There was a countback for third on 38 points with Stephen Belchem (16) edging out Ray Boxall (28).

The ladies’ Professional Cup saw Carolyn Harris emerge victorious with 34 points off 22.

Second was Diana Hughes (14) with 32, while four players signed for 30 and after a countback Mary Goodwin (15) was third ahead of Julie Race (9), Gillian Barke (13) and Caroline Fields (18).

In midweek, Ann Snow (17) won the ladies' Medal with a net 76.

A further countback for second place on net 77 saw Julie Race (9) edge out Carol Cuthbertson (19) and Carolyn Harris (22).

The men’s Midweek Stableford was won by Eric Roast (17) with 35 points.

He finished two points ahead of Alastair Groves (10), while a countback to decide third place on 31 points resulted in Roger Butson (23) finishing ahead of James Hedger (2) and Martin Harris (27).

Father and son Michael and Alasdair Groves featured again in the men’s nine-hole stableford.

Michael won with 18 points, while Alasdair lost out to Gary Spurrier in a countback for second.

However, a day later Alasdair (10) won the Junior Monthly Medal with a net 72, one ahead of Liam Walsh (21), with Justin Phillips (32) third on 75.
