IT turned out to be another strange weekend for the Braintree and Bocking Angling Society match anglers.

On Sunday, the match was the first round of the Huit Cup on Hobbs Croft at the Fennes, which has been a fair venue recently with fish spread along the length.

However, on this occasion, the first pegs produced from the whistle, while the anglers further down had to wait until the second half of the match before catching.

Simon White caught skimmers and roach throughout the match from the second peg at 13 metres to record an easy win with 19-12-0.

Sections (excluding winner): 1 P Thompson 5-0-0, 2 J Derry 6-5-0.

Friday's match at Notley proved once again that although the water is cold, some fish will still feed if they can be found.

It was certainly the case for Bob Reed as he fished the method feeder to land eight carp and two F1s to set a new match record for the venue of 49-15-0.

The silver fish top weight was a modest 0-15-0 taken by Jim Loosley.

On Sunday, the club are on Ash Grounds fishing for the Individual Trophy and the suggestion is that the pegs nearer the channels should be used as this appears to be where the bulk of the fish are at present.
