Mikael Mandron is predicting more wins on the horizon for Colchester United – and says they are brimming with confidence.

Only goal difference is keeping John McGreal’s side out of the League Two play-off positions, following a run of only two defeats in their last 12 games in the division.

U’s striker Mandron feels their impressive 3-1 triumph over fourth-placed Exeter City sent out a statement to other teams in their league that they mean business.

And as Colchester prepare for Friday’s trip to play Swindon Town – who are only above them on goal difference – the Frenchman says they cannot wait for their next game.

Mandron told the Daily Gazette: “I think if we keep performing the way we are, we’ll get more and more wins so on to Swindon now.

“We can’t wait until that game and we’re looking forward to playing another team who are just above us in the table.

“It was a big statement for us to win against Exeter and it’s important for us to win those games.

“We might be below Exeter in the table at the minute but the result shows that we can beat anyone in the division.

“We want to keep pushing and going up the table, so it’s great.

“It’s a confident changing room at the moment and everyone is buzzing.

“Everyone’s just looking forward to the next game, even the boys who haven’t been playing because they want to get into the team.

“That’s great because everyone’s pushing in the same direction.

“We’ve had a few days off between games and we were able to clear our heads and I think it showed on the pitch against Exeter.”

Mandron has bagged six goals so far this season, three behind Colchester’s leading scorer Sammie Szmodics who scored twice against Exeter City.

Szmodics has netted four times in his last five games for the U’s and his attacking partner Mandron says he is enjoying playing alongside the former Stanway School pupil.

“It’s been great playing up there with Sam and he always offers options,” said Mandron.

“He’s come back into the team and since then, he’s scored five goals.

“It’s amazing and great to have him back in the team.

“If I can’t score, then it’s great to have other people joining in with the goals as well.”
