FINE weather produced some fine scoring in two stableford competitions at Braintree Golf Club, with both decided on countbacks.

On Saturday, Mark Pitts, playing off 24, returned 40 points to edge out Eric Roast (18) over the back nine while Adam Crane (3) finished third with 37.

There was a three-way tie on 38 points in the Sunday event.

Michael Seely (10) took the honours ahead of Andrew Wiffen (8), with Andrew Marsay (13) in third place.

Two more players signed for 37 points, with Philip Hawkes (15) finishing fourth ahead of Alan Simmons (9).

William Farrow (28) won the Junior Monthly Medal with a nett 71, while Aaron Fugeman (26) finished runner-up on nett 79.

The seniors' Hiskey Cup saw Kenneth Rowe (11) win with 37 points, two more than David Bethell (16) with John Still (21) third on 33.

The Arnold Cup was won by Trevor Long (15) with 35 points, one better than runner-up Peter Collins (19) with James Larn (12) third with 33.

The ladies’ Tyrell Trophy saw Valda Curtis (26) lead the way with 32 points, one better than Janet Jenkyn (28) with Carole MacLeod (23) third with 30.

The John Bone Foursomes final saw Robert Barrell and Peter Rigby beat Michael Groves and Malcolm Edney 3&2, while the final of the Over-18s Knockout saw Kevin Gould overcome Andrew Smith.

The final of the ladies’ Haughton Cup had Angela Frankland beating Debbie Blundell, while Julie Race beat Elizabeth Maynard in the final of the ladies’ Townrow Matchplay.

Race and Maynard then paired up to win the Billson Pairs, beating Gillian Barke and Eva Kajsa Bolland in the final.
