THE trip to fish the Long Pond at Clare resulted in some good weights for the Braintree Club members who fished for the Pole Trophy.
But in spite of the warm weather the silver fish seemed reluctant to feed and most of the competitors had to target the carp.
Billy Walker and Dean Field were on adjacent pegs and matched each other for fish, but, in a close finish, Walker just had the advantage, weighing 42-4-0 to 37-2-0.
Sections (excluding winner): 1 P Thompson 26-2-0, 2 M Gould 36-5-0.
The match was pole only but Matt Gould may have started a new trend as he fished a method feeder to catch about half of his weight and he certainly gave the other competitors food for thought.
The Notley Friday Sweep had a similar result to the Clare match as silver fish were hard to come by and the top weights were carp on the feeder or pole.
Gary Tisshaw switched between the two methods to catch with various baits to win the match with 30-15-0.
Second place went Bob Reed, who used the method feeder but ended one fish short on 24-4-0.
