THOMAS Gale blew the rest of division one field away at the final Playgolf Colchester Club Championship qualifying round.

Gale shot a superb gross 72 (nett 63) earning a shot handicap cut in favourable weather conditions, which saw a large turnout compete.

His card was based around a solid 13 pars and boosted with a pair of par four birdies, in good course conditions and on receptive greens.

Paul Addison (nine) also earned a shot handicap cut with his gross 76 (nett 67) with card highlights of ten pars and two birdies.

Third place went to Trevor Barnett (12) on countback from doubles partner Stephen Allen (12), after both carded nett 68.

Andreas Fantousi (17) won division two with nett 71 after carding highlights of four pars.

Danny Withycombe (17) hit four pars and a par three birdie to take second place on a three-way countback from third-placed Ivan Southernwood (17) leaving Mark Dean (17) out of the podium places in fourth place.

Glen Saunders (18) won division three to earn a well-deserved two-shot handicap cut with an amazing winning score of nett 62.

His card included five pars and a pair of front nine birdies, including a two on the par three third hole.

Ian Perkins (20) shot a very useful nett 67 to play off 19 next time out, with a card consisting of six pars and a par four birdie.

John Chaplin (20) took third place with his nett 72, including four pars.

Steve Turner (13) made light work of the stiff breeze in Playgolf’s Seniors monthly stableford competition.

Turner returned to top form with an outstanding score of 40 points earning a handicap cut to 12.

Jerry Dalton (14) took second place on 33 points with Brian Banks (17) in third, on 32 points.

Division two was headed by Robert Few (26) with 39 points, with second-placed Allan Kitching (25) with 36 points three points adrift.

Bob Price (28) was third on 33 points while Peter Saye, Brian Hart and Keith Murray each received a sleeve of balls for their birdies on the par-three third hole.

Six Playgolf Seniors entered the recent Haverhill Senior Open.

The Playgolf partnership of Trevor Cocksedge and Will Elder were overall winners from the 54 teams from three counties,with an unrivalled score of 43 points.

There were some excellent scores from Playgolf Ladies in the August Stableford competition.

Division one was very tightly contested with Gina Macmillan first on countback from runner-up Carol Farrance, after both recorded Competition Scratch Score (CSS) pars of 36 points.

Ann Longman was third, on 34 points.

Jeanette Shea won division two with 36 points, with Lynne Southgate second on countback from Pauline Jordan, with both on 34 points.

Playgolf pair Ann Longman and Jeanette Shea progressed to the County Ladies Knockout Competitions semi-finals.

A large field took to the course when Playgolf staged their annual Ladies/Seniors Fun day.

Teams of three consisted of one lady and two seniors, with full handicap stableford scoring, with two scores counting on each hole and all scores on the par threes.

Jennie Boyden, Brian Hart and Allan Kitching won with an amazing 15 under par score of 95 points.

Lynne Southgate, Eric Hames and Will Elder on 91 points snatched second place from Maureen Dale, Jeff Coles and Keith Murray (90 points).

Ruth Amoss took the best lady score of 38 points.

Stephen Dale took home the prize for the best gentlemen, carding 42 points.

Nearest the pin winners were Lynne Southgate for the ladies and Eric Ames for the gents.

The fantastic sum of £340 was raised through a raffle and donations for the charity Sense - for Deaf Blind Children.
