ERNIE Cable celebrated his Captain’s Day in glorious sunshine at Gosfield Lake Golf Club.

The competition was an 18 hole drawn stableford with a shotgun start and Cable and his wife Barbara generously provided a barbecue and drinks for all the competitors and other well-wishers served after the completion of nine holes.

The captain and his wife were assisted by vice-presidents Carole and James Robinson and lady captain Cathy Hatcher in serving refreshments to the members.

The presentation of prizes followed the event thanks to John Barrack and vice-captain Graham Hurrell’s assistance in checking the cards.

The winner on the Lakes course, with 41 points, was Richard Heard, closely followed by Richard Beavis with 40 points after a countback.

In third place, also with 40 points, was John Barrack.

The best front nine was won by Glyn Robinson with a score of 24 points and the winner of the best back nine was Derek Pettigrew with 21 points.

Nearest the pins on the five par three holes were Malachy Shields, Glyn Robinson, George Castle Derek Pettigrew and Josh Newman.
