THE final game of the Colchester and East Essex Football League season saw Riverbank Athletic lifting the Jenkins Shield at Wormingford.

They faced Cavendish Reserves in the final and after a 5-1 victory, were able to reflect on a tremendous season in which they also won the Amos Cup, the League Knockout Cup and Acorn Charity Invitation Shield.

Riverbank took a 14th minute lead through Bradley Manning's deflected shot but were pegged back to 1-1 in the 31st minute when Cavendish striker Michael Wilson deftly flicked the ball home with the outside of his right foot.

Neither side troubled the score line for the rest of the half, but Riverbank applied pressure after the break and took a 2-1 lead when the Cavendish defence failed to deal with a bouncing ball.

It allowed Luke Goodson to turn the ball home at the far post and 2-1 became 3-1 on 74 minutes when Goodson got away from his marker and played the perfect cross for Will Howe to turn the ball in at the back post

With Cavendish playing on the break, they went 4-1 down when centre-back Ollie Parkes' cross-cum shot sailed over the keeper into the back of the net.

Riverbank rounded of the scoring on five minutes from time when substitute Mark St Claire netted their fifth goal to complete memorable season and collection of silverware for Athletic.

After the match the trophies and mementos were presented to the teams and match officials by Colchester and East Essex League vice-chairman David Bird.

All teams are reminded that the league's AGM will be held on Monday, June 19, at the Belle Vue Social Club on Colne Bank Avenue in Colchester when at least one member of each team must be present.
