THE Ryman League division north season may have only just ended but Witham Town manager Adam Flint is already turning his attentions to next year.

A 2-1 win against Waltham Abbey in their final fixture meant Witham ended a run of four straight defeats and could head into their summer break in a positive mood.

They ended up in 13th in the division north table, but while that more than met the club’s brief of securing step four football this year, Flint admitted that there was a feeling of his team not having fully met their potential.

And, with a whole season as manager now under his belt, he wants to make sure that there is greater consistency from his side next year.

He said: “I said to the players before the game that the club are happy with where we have finished, but for ourselves, we are probably a bit disappointed where we are.

“We feel we could have been higher.

“The club are pleased and getting to where we are gives us another marker for next year as we can say to them that we want to get 60 points and then press on from there.

“However, we feel we should have been ten to 15 points better off this year.

“At times, we have been winning games and switched off and seen points lost that way.

“We didn’t do that against Waltham Abbey on Saturday and that finish puts us in good stead. I think our mentality has to be for more consistency next year.

“There can’t be any excuses that we are still learning; if the players are still here then they should have done their learning this year.

“We know next year will be tough as there are Canvey, Grays and Sudbury all coming down so there will be some big money clubs in there, but we have to work hard like we did on Saturday.”

Flint said the club would be holding its annual presentation evening at the Village Glass Stadium on May 20 and he hoped he would have a clearer picture for his plans next year by that point.

He added: “Hopefully I’ll roughly know where I am with regards to budgets and the players that I can keep.

“A few have confirmed that they want to stay so I have a rough idea now, but we are also interested in bringing some more in as well.

“I’ve spoken to some boys already and it will be just about getting things over the line.”

“There have been a lot of ups and downs this year, but it was good to finish positively,” said Flint.

“It’s been a really enjoyable year.

“We have learned a lot this year, myself, James (Robinson) and Curtis (Whyte) and I think it will put us in good stead for next year.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of the players and they’ve said they want to stay.

“I know a couple will move on, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to keep the side together.
