BROTHERS Ed and Elliot Appleby enjoyed success at the Magnum Open figure skating competition, in Ayr.

Ed was first and Elliot second in the advanced novice men's event, while the latter recorded a personal best in the short programme.

The boys were representing their club, Chelmsford Riverside Ice Skating Club, as was sister Alexandra.

Alexandra achieved new personal bests in the advanced novice short and free programmes, placing seventh in the short event and eighth in the free.

Ed also had an opportunity to meet Danielle Harrison, the 2015 winner of the British Senior Ladies' National Championships, who competed and took first place in the senior ladies' events at Magnum.

In connection with their training at Riverside Ice and Leisure, in Chelmsford, Ed, Elliot and Alexandra are honoured to be current sports ambassadors for Chelmsford City Council.

Ed and Elliot have also just received official notification that they have been called up to represent the National Ice Skating Association (NISA) and Great Britain (GBR) again this season, this time at the ISU Rooster Cup, in Paris.

They will travel with their coaches, ice professionals John Wicker and Jane Faux, to compete in the advanced novice men's events in April.

This follows on from international duty at the end of last month, where Ed and Elliot were invited to represent NISA and GBR at advanced novice level at the ISU Challenge Cup, in the Netherlands.

They competed in a very strong field of skaters from Canada, America and Sweden, with Ed placing fourth overall and Elliot sixth.
