A MORALE-BOOSTING win for his team at VCD Athletic has left Witham Town boss Adam Flint looking towards the end of the season in a positive frame of mind.

The Witham manager had been bitterly disappointed to see his team succumb to a last-gasp goal as they lost their Ryman League division north home game against Haringey Borough last weekend, so he was relieved to see a positive response at VCD in midweek.

Flint admitted that he and his coaching staff had had a “hear-to-heart” with their players in the wake of that defeat by Haringey and he was pleased as goals from Max Bradford, Lance Akins and Scott Kemp gave them a 3-0 win in Kent.

He said: “It was a lot better - I think we turned up and just thought that we could do it. We had a heart-to-heart with the players in the dressing room after Saturday and I think we got a positive reaction.

“Hopefully we can take it on now.

“We’re up to 46 points now and that’s five wins clear of (third-from-bottom) Brentwood so if we can go on a bit of a run we can start looking to catch the sides above us.

“We’re at Phoenix (Sports) on Saturday and they’re one of those just above us and then we have Tilbury as well.

“We have nine games left and that’s exactly the number of games that I had when I took over at the end of last season.

“We won four and drew one to get 13 points then and if we can at least match that then that would take us up to around the 60-point mark.

“We know we can’t go up, but there’s a lot still to play for and we’ll be looking for another positive reaction at Phoenix on Saturday.

“I said to them to enjoy the win at VCD but that they need to push on now and show that they want to be here next season.

“We want to create something here and they need to show that they want to be a part of it.”

Flint said that Lewis Payne may be a doubt for the trip to Phoenix Sports.
