Colchester United head coach John McGreal says they will not know the full extent of Frankie Kent's injury until the early part of next week after he was stretchered off in their 2-1 win over Barnet.

The U's defender, who has been impressive for Colchester over recent weeks, suffered an ankle injury in the opening stages of their victory over the Bees at the Weston Homes Community Stadium and left the ground on crutches.

Colchester suffered a double defensive injury blow in the opening 17 minutes of their clash with Barnet, with Lloyd Doyley also hobbling off with a calf problem on his U's home debut.

McGreal said: “They’ll both be struggling (for the game against Crawley Town on Tuesday night).

“Frankie is on crutches with his ankle and we won’t know the extent of his injury until the early part of the week.

“He’s in a bit of a sad way, just because he’s been unbelievable for us and one of the main pivotal players that’s helped us go on this run of one defeat in 12.

“I feel sorry for him but it’s part and parcel of football.

“Lloyd felt something down on his calf on a stretch as he blocked a cross."

McGreal also confirmed that goalkeeper Dean Brill was not among the substitutes against Barnet after suffering a knee injury in training and replaced on the bench by Dillon Barnes.

McGreal said: “Dean did a bit of training with George (Bankole) in the early part of the week and his knee swelled up.

“But we’ve got Dillon, so there’s no worries there.

“I needed that keeper to come in and I’m glad I got him in.

“We were thinking about trying to get Dillon out on loan but it doesn’t look like that might happen until we know how Dean is.

“But we really rate Dillon anyway, so he’ll just slip back in anyway."
