BILL Walker was the winner as Braintree and Bocking Angling Society fished at the Fennes in a match held in continuous rain.

The match was split between Ash Grounds and Hobbs Croft with the view that it would produce a better result.

Angling is certainly never predictable and Hobbs Croft produced the better weights, while those on Ash Grounds struggled for bites, or caught very small perch.

Walker, on the first peg on Hobbs Croft, caught roach and skimmers to win the match with 9-8-8, while Jim Loosley won the section by default with 6-9-0.

Top weight and section winner on Ash Grounds was Chris Sale, on peg ten, who had 8-8-0 of roach and skimmers in the last one and a half hours when the fished moved in.

The Friday Sweep at Notley was fished in cold windy conditions, with a fair few snow flakes blowing around and only a hardy three turned out.

All had fish, though, and Loosley had top weight of 2-11-0.

On Sunday, the Braintree Club card shows the Rod and Reel match will be held on Hill and Black.

Following a discussion after last Sunday's match it was agreed that any method would be allowed and that includes the use of bloodworm and joker.
