HALSTEAD Boxing Club were represented by two boxers on Rayne's Open Boxing Show at Braintree’s Institute Hall.
Schoolboy boxer Henry Buckley was in his second skills bout and was matched against the host’s club Alex Mal.
In a well-matched skills bout, Buckley started the stronger, exhibiting good all-round skills and power but Mal came back with some good combinations of his own.
In this lively bout of three one minute rounds, both boys performed very well and did themselves and their clubs proud.
However, there was a shock for Halstead senior middleweight Jason Bradley as he suffered a first-round defeat by Jack Deer of Rayne.
The reigning Essex and Eastern Counties champion was stopped in the dying seconds of the first round by a big right hand which came out of nowhere as he backed on to the ropes.
After taking two or three more telling shots, referee Simon Mullan stepped in to save Bradley from further punishment.
The defeat came right out of the blue as Bradley was comfortably edging the round.
