BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT produced an amazing fightback to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory at home to Thamesmead Town.

James Webster’s in-form side were 2-0 and 3-1 down in the topsy-turvy Ryman League division north encounter at North Road.

However, they refused to wave the white flag and pinched the points thanks to a hat-trick from the prolific Aaron Condon and another late goal from Jake Turner.

It capped a memorable afternoon for Regent, who had won five of their previous six matches and are now looking forward to an Essex derby at Heybridge Swifts on Tuesday.

Regent found themselves behind at half-time following Scott Kinch’s strike in the 25th minute.

Thamesmead doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half, through Paul Vines.

Condon halved the deficit from the penalty spot, but Aaron Rhule restored his side’s two-goal advantage six minutes later to make it 3-1.

Condon converted another penalty to set up a tense finale and Turner netted an equaliser in the 87th minute.

Amazingly, Condon then scored in the 90th minute to spark wild celebrations at North Road.

Regent are fifth in the table, in the final play-off place.

Elsewhere, Jack Barham was on target again but it proved scant consolation as HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS lost 4-1 at home to Soham Town Rangers.

The highly-rated striker – last season’s top scorer - has been out injured all season but signalled his return with two goals in last Tuesday’s 5-0 victory at Great Wakering Rovers.

Barham showed his worth with another strike to put his side in front at Scraley Road.

Unfortunately it proved a short-lived advantage, though, as Ryan Sharman levelled 60 seconds later, in the 32nd minute.

Soham’s Spyros Mentis received bookings either side of the goals and was sent for an early bath, to complete an eventful first half.

The visitors grabbed their second just after the hour-mark through Joe Tennent.

Salim Relizani, who was later sent off, and Darren Foxley then made the points safe with goals in the 74th and 84th minutes.

To add insult to injury, Swifts’ Nicholas Brown was sent off in the closing seconds.

Jody Brown’s men are just one place above the relegation zone, on goal difference.

Mid-table WITHAM TOWN picked up maximum points from a 2-0 victory at home to Romford.

Nathan Koranteng netted from the penalty spot, in the 19th minute.

And Tim Monsheju made the points safe with a precious second in the latter stages.

Fourth-placed MALDON AND TIPTREE were held to a goal-less draw at Thurrock.
