GOALS were certainly in abundance for local teams in division one of the Thurlow Nunn League.

HOLLAND FC boss Glen Cowen was in seventh heaven after seeing his team put back-to-back defeats behind them with a 7-0 thrashing of visiting March Town United at the Rush Green Bowl.

He said: “At last, we’ve got back to winning ways with a positive result and team performance after two defeats on the trot.

“Our scorers were Steve Eaton, Billy Wales and Nicky Palmer in the first half as we led 3-0 at half-time.

“In the second half, there were two typical strikes from Rob Thorne after he’d come on as a substitute, Nicky (Palmer), added his second of the game and Joe Martin also scored.”

There was the further bonus for Holland as they saw Chris Ribchester return to their line-up after an injury lay-off.

The win took Holland back up into the top four and another team on the move up with a win was COGGESHALL TOWN.

They returned to the top of division one with a 3-0 win at Wisbech St Mary.

There were also plenty of goals at Dereham Town Reserves, where HALSTEAD TOWN maintained their unbeaten start in the league by taking a point in a ten-goal thriller.

Jake Brown scored for the Humbugs, but they trailed 3-1 at half-time against a Dereham side who had lost all of their previous 11 league outings.

And despite Nick Widerspin bringing it back to 3-2 for Halstead after the break, they conceded twice more to be 5-2 down.

However, the final 38 minutes of the game saw a stunning fightback as a Julian Simon-Parson’s strike and two late Tom Cook goals rescued a point.

Goals weren’t quite so forthcoming in the premier division, but STANWAY ROVERS only needed one to win 1-0 at Walsham le Willows to stay second in the top flight.

Tyler Kemp was on target for Rovers.

WIVENHOE TOWN had drawn with Stanway in midweek and they had to settle for a point again as they were held to a goalless stalemate at home by Godmanchester Rovers.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC were able to force a home win, though, as goals from Sean Bartlett and Ben Newson gave them a 2-0 success.

However, FC CLACTON were left looking for their first point of the campaign as they went down to a 5-0 defeat at Saffron Walden Town.
