TWO matchplay competitions reached their conclusion at Braintree Golf Club recently.

The Staples pairs betterball final saw Martin Hawes and Steve Belcham emerge victorious by three and two over Angus Neilson and Alistair Stalker while in the Over-18 Handicap Knockout Colin Pace beat Steve Denton by the same score.

Meanwhile, a betterball score of 44 points saw Stephen Frankland (15) and Leigh Jessiman (4) win the men's Barry Mann Shotgun competition at Stisted.

They finished a point clear of the rest of the field while a countback was needed to decide the other places.

James Bussell (5) and Kevin Carling (9) took the runners-up spot ahead of Martin Hawes (1) and Steve Voller (13) with David Wager (13) and Roger Moss (14) fourth.

Another countback was required to settle the top places in the men's Saturday Stableford after three players returned 36 points.

The winner was Sean Kelly (5), runner-up was Vincent Dawson (15) and James Bussell (6) took third spot.

Victory in the men's Midweek Stableford went to scratch man John Bradford with 36 points, one better than James Hedger (1), with Eric Roast (18) third on countback from Matt Proctor (11) after both had 34 points.

The ladies’ Midweek Medal saw a four-way tie at the top on nett 70.

After another countback, Maureen Woollcott (26) was declared the winner ahead of Gillian Barke (13) as runner-up, while Diane Wyatt (21) finished third and Janet White (18) fourth.
